Just a few years ago, companies were only beginning to discover archiving. Since then, the market has grown enormously and it has become difficult to find a way through the mass of solutions on offer.

Armed with ten years of experience in the field, Optrium has developed a structured and efficient consultative approach. This begins with help in the choice of solution and continues through each stage of the process right up to the ongoing maintenance contract.

One of Optrium's strengths is to assist companies very early on in their archiving project, from the moment where they begin to think about their choice of solution. The real issue is not actually to find the best solution, but the solution best suited to their business and their organization.

Interview with Sébastien Demond, Technical Director at Optrium.

When a client appoints us to set up an archiving solution, we start by performing an initial technical analysis of his needs. This technical analysis leads to both the choice and architecture of the most appropriate solution.

Once the client has clarified this decision, Optrium installs the chosen solution within the constructs of the specified architecture. This is the time when you as the company benefit most from our advice about overall improvement of your IT system.

We currently work with key solutions which have to be integrated at various levels within the client's information system. As a result we have to sort out the client's desktop, messaging system, active directory or even SQL databases, depending on wherein the system our products are integrated.

Most of the time we are called upon to sort out a specific problem in the archiving system and we usually discover that the problem has nothing to do with the archiving solution. In fact it is often the case that the symptom shown within the archiving system really hides a much larger malfunction.

 

The sensitivity of the archiving system means that all its connections have to be totally clean for it to work properly.

In most cases, we intervene in large organisations where there are many skilled technicians but who are often specialists in one particular area. Our advantage comes from having an overview of the entire information system and having access to everything inasmuch as we work with the Archiving service team which has wide access to the client's infrastructure.

Like a GP who refers a patient to a consultant, we diagnose a problem which will then be taken on by a specialist. We have the advantage of a fresh and objective view of the client's system, something which is impossible for company teams. Our added value lies in our extensive expertise and our comprehensive approach to information systems.

Clients subscribe to our maintenance service which enables us to intervene very quickly when a problem has been detected so that it does not take on more significant proportions.
